“Cum Grano Salis”

is a boutique Bed & Breakfast, housed in a beautiful historic 'Casa Colonica' built in 1882 and run by Flemish people.

The house with lush garden and swimming pool is located on a hillside on the edge of an old village, Castello delle Forme, which belongs to the municipality of Marsciano in Umbria, the green heart of Italy. From the rooms and the garden you have a beautiful view of the Tiber Valley and several surrounding villages and towns, including Deruta, one of the most important ceramic centers in Italy.

Numerous sights in Umbria and southern Tuscany can be reached in less than an hour by car, including Perugia, Todi, Assisi, Lake Trasimeno, Spello, Spoleto, Orvieto, Gubbio, the Marmore waterfalls, Cortona, ...

Our Bed&Breakfast is 'adults only', but young people from the age of 14 are welcome.

Unfortunately, your pet cannot stay with us for hygienic reasons.

Free parking is provided on our own grounds.

Cum Grano Salis has three junior suites and one standard room. They are all named after the noble families who wrote the history of Perugia: the Farnese Suite and the Baglioni Suite (both on the 2nd floor), the Della Corgna Suite (1st floor) and the Oddi Room (1st floor). ). Since the house has no elevator, it is less suitable for people who have difficulty climbing stairs.

Breakfast is served on the large sun terrace on the 1st floor, exceptionally in bad weather or in the spring and autumn in the indoor lounge on the 1st floor.

All bedrooms are located on the garden side of the building and guarantee absolute tranquility and a beautiful panorama.

Of course, the range of historical sights is virtually endless: a few stays are not enough to visit everything in Umbria and southern Tuscany! We can give you visiting tips about: Perugia (25 min), Deruta (10 min), Todi (30 min), Lake Trasimeno (40 min), Assisi (40 min), Spello (45 min), Cortona (55 min) , Arezzo (75 min), Siena (80 min), Lake Corbara (45 min), Marmore waterfalls (65 min), Orvieto (60 min), Spoleto (70 min), Gubbio (75 min), Umbertide (60 mins), Sansepolcro (70 mins), …

For sporty hikers, we recommend various half- or full-day trips along the route between La Verna (Toscana) – Gubbio – Assisi and Rieti. This is a multi-day thematic tour in the footsteps of St. Francis of Assisi ('Di Qui Passo' Francesco'). These walks are well signposted (follow the yellow T or Tau sign). We will also provide you with a Dutch description and, if desired, take you to the departure point in the morning after breakfast and pick you up at the arrival point in the late afternoon.

Castello delle Forme is also well located for cyclists: the area is hilly, but you do not have to drive into the really high mountains of the Apennines. Note that in Italy you do ride on the road (there are no separate cycle paths). Motorcyclists will of course also get their money's worth here: even the Apennines are no problem for them.

And... don't forget to relax: the large garden with many relaxing corners is perfect for enjoying the landscape with a book or a glass of wine. Cum Grano Salis also has a library with numerous books in different languages that are available to our guests. And of course there is the invigorating swimming pool for those hot days.
