Surroundings

OBIDOS

A picturesque castle town is just a 20-minute drive away (UNESCO World Heritage Site). For a small snack, visit bar IBN Errik Rex where thin chorizo sausages are flambéed in an earthenware bowl and served with cubes of cheese and local bread. If the day is not over yet, drive to the lagoa de Obidos - beach/boulevard.

DINO PARK LOURINHA

There is an adventurous dinosaur park, for children up to 13/14 years old, in just 35 minutes. And it's even more fun when combined with a visit to Baleal beach on the way back.

LISSABON

Visit Lisbon's Benfica football stadium for a sporting experience. Cycle through the city to discover its charm. Explore the Oceanarium or spend a lovely day at the zoo. Wander the narrow alleys of Alfama and soak up the city's unique atmosphere.

ALCOBAÇA

A 25-minute drive away, this beautiful monastery (UNESCO World Heritage Site) features the Portuguese version of Romeo and Juliet; the tragic love story of Pedro and Ines. After this visit to the church and monastery, we recommend going to Nazaré where monster waves of up to 30 metres high are possible under certain weather conditions. There, also take the special lift to Nazaré's upper town.

BATALHA

A cathedral called battalha, Batalha was the king's gift to the people after winning the war with Spain. If Portugal had not won the war, it would have spoken Spanish. It has the Manueline style with many exotic images showing the travels of the Portuguese. The tomb of the unknown soldier is guarded by two soldiers with a funny gait.

SERRA DE AIRE & CANDEEIROS

Serra d'aire e candeeiros is a natural park with so many hiking trails and peculiarities. One of these is the largest freshwater spring in Europe with beautiful caves, the birthplace of rio Alviela. Complete this visit by going to the visitor centre and boarding the time travel machine. This is a 45-minute drive from our Eco Resort.

SPOT DOLPHINS ON THE BERLENGA ISLANDS

It's only a 35-minute drive to the Peniche harbour. From there take the boat to Berlenga (UNESCO Worldheritage) for about half a day. There are also several (indoor and outdoor) go-kart tracks nearby Caldas da Rainha and an evening of bowling is also possible in just a 15-minute drive. The english style city park of Caldas da Rainha with a large children's playground is also highly recommended and then a coffee or delicious lunch at restaurant Cais do Parque.

NAZARÉ

The historic fishing village of Nazaré is now a very popular beach in Portugal. It became a global phenomenon after the McNamara effect. On 1 November 2011, Hawaiian surfer Garrett McNamara surfed a wave of 23.77 metres (78 feet) during the SUN North Canyon Show at Praia do Norte beach, in Nazaré! Since then, Nazaré - or as surfers call it, "Naza" - has caught the world's attention and is now known for its Big Waves.

TOMAR

Portugal has an entire city that has risen according to an esoteric plan. It is the city of Tomar, designed by Gualdim Pais, the most famous master of the Order of the Temple. Founded in 1160, Tomar was designed according to the archetype of an initiatory mentality, just like the Polis, the Acropolis and the Pantheon. Book a guided tour if you want to know more about the Templars.

SÃO MARTINHO DO PORTO

Within a 25-minute drive, you'll be at this child-friendly beach and quiet bay. You can also eat delicious pizza at Restaurant Portobello and then have an ice cream at Gelatomania. Every summer there is also a blow-up island with bouncy castles and slides, jet skis, pedal boats, etc.

SALIR DO PORTO

If you drive 20 minutes, you can run as fast as you can from Portugal's highest sand dune and then walk to the chapel of Salir do Porto, the oldest building near Caldas da Rainha. It is also fun to walk along the wooden paths overlooking the dune landscape. Or explore the dinosaur footprints at Salir do Porto with a guide, you can book it with us.

SALT PANS AT RIO MAIOR

In 30 minutes, you can learn how to make salt like the Romans did since 1185. Enjoy the tastiest grilled chicken you've ever eaten!

BUDDHA EDEN PARK

The buddha eden park is just 40 minutes from Quinta Japonesa. There you can stroll around and imagine yourself in Asia. If you don't feel like walking, you can take a little train through the park full of buddhas, pagodas, modern art and African art.

Definitely one of the enchanting and unique coastal destinations of Center of Portugal, is the fishing city of Peniche. It is a world acclaimed surf spot, but also an inviting destination for families or solo travellers, as well as bird-watching and geology fans. A colourful city embraced by the Atlantic that welcomes its visitors with mouth-watering tables and warm-hearted hospitality.
