Prague and its five historical districts:
Less than 30 km from Villa Gineta is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It is not for nothing that Prague is called the city of a hundred towers, Golden Prague and the mother of cities. Immerse yourself in its rich history and culture, and admire its beautiful architecture.
You can explore the five historical districts of Prague: Hradčany with its impressive Prague Castle and Malá Strana (The Lesser Side) on the left bank, the famous Charles Bridge, which connects you to the right bank and leads to Staré Město (Old Town) with its unique Jewish quarter Josefov and the lively Nové Město (New Town).
Besides the famous sights, Prague with its many parks and forest areas is also one of the greenest cities in Europe. You can visit the old Bohemian residence of Vyšehrad overlooking the Vltava, enjoy the view from Petrin Hill, or visit the impressive Botanical Gardens at the Troja Chateau. The city has something for everyone, with theatres, operas, concerts, shops, cafes and restaurants.
Castles and fortresses
The Czech Republic has a large number of castles and fortresses, proof of its historical importance. Konopište was owned by Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne. Its wondrous hunting trophies, magnificent salons and bedrooms, as well as its private dining room, represent the spirit of a man whose death in Sarajevo led to the outbreak of the First World War. The castle of Dobříš, Mníšek pod Brdy and Jemniště are also a direct hit, and offer English and German guided tours.
The fortresses served to protect Prague, and each has its own rich history and architectural splendour. Karlštejn is a classic example of Gothic architecture, with its impenetrable walls, the Chapel of the Holy Cross, and the unique collection of Gothic paintings. Křivoklat is the famous residence of kings and emperors, located in the vast Křivoklat forests. You can also visit Český Šternberk and the surrounding ruins.
Cities and Villages
There are many enchanting towns and villages nestled in Bohemian. One of our favorites is the medieval town of Tabor, where you can take a walk through the town and hide in the admirable catacombs. There is also Kutná Hora, the UNESCO registered town, with its intriguing bone church and Gothic Barbara Cathedral.
War Memorials
The Czech Republic has several memorial sites for the world wars, which are worth a visit. An intriguing day trip is the concentration camp of Terezín. More than 40,000 Jews died in this transition camp between 1942-1945. The town consists of two settlements on the left and right banks of the river Ohře. You can take a tour of the small settlement or visit the Jewish Ghetto Museum, which commemorates the atrocities committed in the camp
