Surroundings

In the Portuguese village of Boliqueime, there are several small supermarkets, restaurants (also takeaway), bars, a bank and a pharmacy within walking distance. Do you want to explore places outside the Algarve coast?

Casa Da Aldeia is not located at the B&B Casa Porta Azul, but 5 minutes by car from Casa Porta Azul.

Discover the area around our Casa

Casa Porta Azul is located in a prime location in the southernmost province of Portugal. This region is a very popular holiday destination. The Algarve owes this to the beautiful beaches, impressive cliffs, nature reserves, lovely villages and much more. We are happy to tell you more about the area.

Close to home we find the authentic Portuguese landscape. From our Casa you can walk straight into nature. Our village Boliqueime is 5 minutes by car from our Casa. The beach can be reached within 15 minutes by car.

The center of Boliqueime is 5 minutes by car from our Casa. Boliqueime, not yet discovered by mass tourism, is a small village built around the church. In the narrow streets you see old men enjoying the outdoors together every day. Boliqueime has several restaurants from very simple and tasty to chic and refined.

The coastline can be seen from the first floor of Casa Porta Azul. The beach with its countless bays is truly unique here. Within 15 minutes by car you are on one of our favorite beaches: Praia do Barranco das Belharucas. The beach is interspersed with bizarre rock formations that are both on the beach and in the water.

Loulé is a beautiful town located on a hill. Loulé still shows much of the Moorish influences. For example, there are still remains of the old city walls of the Moorish castle. This city was and still is the center of fruit cultivation and handicrafts in the Algarve. Every day there is a large semi-covered market where workers from the interior sell their goods. It is wonderful to walk among the people there and see all the beautiful things that are on offer. Don't forget to walk to the church on top of the hill. This gives a beautiful view of the city of Loulé.

Albufeira: This traditionally small fishing village has grown into the largest seaside resort in the Algarve, which is especially overrun by tourists in the summer months. Albufeira has a vibrant nightlife with many restaurants, bars and discos. In addition to the hustle and bustle, Albufeira has managed to retain some of its beauty, such as the Ponte Grande and Cerro de Malpique. These are caves and tunnels that are hidden between the cliffs on the coast of Albufeira.

Faro: For many visitors, Faro is only the capital of the Algarve and they know that the airport is also located there. However, Faro has much more to offer than that. Faro is located on a bay sheltered by marshy islands in the Atlantic Ocean. This marshland is a protected Natural Park. Faro may give an urban impression, but it is strikingly green with many palm trees, has a small harbour, a long inland sea and a beautiful city centre. The old city centre is still surrounded by medieval fortress walls and towers. Within these walls is the old monastery with the monastic school, which is still active. In 1249, Faro was the last Portuguese city to be recaptured from the Moors by King Alfonso III. In other words, Faro is a versatile city that is definitely worth a visit.

Olhão: To finally reach this fishing village, the route leads through many small villages and countless orchards with their own stalls. The beautiful oranges often make people decide to take a net with them. The fishing village of Olhão still shows many influences that the Moors left behind. This place is also suitable for a lovely walk along the water with the fish auction, which is still active to this day. Don't forget to have a local fish dish in one of the fish restaurants. From Olhão there is a daily boat connection to the islands of Farol, Culatra and Deserta.

Tavira: East of Faro lies Tavira. This village is known for its varied roofs of the houses, many churches (almost 40!) and it is the warmest place in the Algarve. When you walk through the old centre, these facts are immediately apparent. The old wall of the castle offers a fantastic view over this village. After a nice stroll, it is time for a drink and a typical Portuguese delicacy at the “Praça da Republica”. On this square is the impressive town hall and from here you can reach the other part of Tavira via the bridge the “Ponta Romana”, which is closed to motor traffic.
